I’m Phillip Montgomery—Arkansas-born, Minnesota-raised, Iowa then New York-educated, and now Los Angeles-based. So I'm one state short of a campaign slogan... But at my core I'm a storyteller: a writer-director-producer and unapologetic cinephile who’s been lucky enough to cut my teeth on shoots all over the world. My work spans films, television, and national brand campaigns for Google, Jack Daniel’s, Deloitte, The Home Depot, Kia, Guinness, and a long list of others. Along the way, I’ve picked up a YDA Award and multiple Cannes Silver and Bronze Lions for my commercial work—including projects for The GRAMMYs and campaigns for Uber. On the TV side, I’ve directed for Paramount+ and the History Channel, including SITTING BULL (produced by Leonardo DiCaprio) and THE WEST, produced by and featuring Kevin Costner. My comedy short BIG BOY PANTS (starring Emmy nominee Finn Wittrock) premiered as a Vimeo Staff Pick, and my dance-horror film CHILD OF THE SKY debuted at the New York Film Festival. My first feature documentary, #ReGENERATION, narrated by Ryan Gosling, explored activism in the online era—winning the Seattle International Film Festival and landing a national theatrical release. Drama, comedy, social, unscripted—whatever the genre, I’m chasing the same thing every time: the most human, surprising story in the room… and the frame that makes you feel it.
